Located in the high plain of Romagna between the rivers Senio and Senterno, the territory of the municipality of Solarolo has been inhabited since the Bronze Age <\/b>, as evidenced by the
\n archaeological site of Via Ordiere<\/b>
\n<\/a>, still active in research thanks to the work of the Department of Archaeology of the University of Bologna. The Roman colonization has left an indelible imprint, in the landscape of the territory of Solarolo, through the centuriation, among whose meshes have been identified testimonies of numerous villas.<\/p>\n

The historic center, with its 14th-century layout, was almost totally destroyed during World War II: of the ancient settlement, much of the Manfredi walls<\/b>, a few private houses and some structures of the Molino (active in 1397) remain. At the ruins of the fortress, theancient gate<\/b> has been reconstructed. The village is supported by a predominantly agricultural economy, from which some particularly valuable handicraft activities emerge, such as the production of “Macram\u00e8 di Solarolo,” traditional fringed lace that is produced here with a special finish.<\/p>\n
