{"id":1357,"date":"2023-09-28T17:05:42","date_gmt":"2023-09-28T15:05:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.faenzaondemand.it\/video\/geological-museum-ex-cava-monticino\/"},"modified":"2023-09-28T17:05:42","modified_gmt":"2023-09-28T15:05:42","slug":"geological-museum-ex-cava-monticino","status":"publish","type":"avada_portfolio","link":"https:\/\/www.faenzaondemand.it\/en\/video\/geological-museum-ex-cava-monticino\/","title":{"rendered":"Geological Museum Ex Cava Monticino"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>From an old gypsum quarry abandoned for almost 15 years, in 2006, the <strong>open-air Geological Museum<\/strong> was born.<br \/>\nNear the sanctuary of <strong>Monticino<\/strong>, at the eastern end of the <strong>Parco della Vena del Gesso Romagnola<\/strong> and close to the village of Brisighella, the extraction of chalky stone lasted for more than seventy years, ending at the end of the 80s of the last century.<\/p>\n<p>Since the mid-70s the Monticino quarry has become a privileged place for the study of evaporitic rocks such as gypsum and scientific interest reached its peak with the discovery \u2013 in 1985 \u2013 of the remains  <strong>Fossil<\/strong>  of a very varied fauna rich in continental vertebrates (rhinos, monkeys, hyenas, antelopes, crocodiles, etc. ..), lived about 5 and a half million years ago.<\/p>\n<p>This area thus enhances a <strong>paleontological site<\/strong> of European importance and one of the most spectacular angular discrepancies \u2013 between chalky banks and deposits above \u2013 of the northern Apennines.
