The zirudels

The short rhyming compositions typical of the territory

Zirudelle are a form of traditional poetry typical of our area. The poems are generally in rhyme and tell funny or joking stories that often take their cues from village stories or recall local events. In this video Luigi Franzoni recites a zirudella from Carlo Pirazzini's book "Néch la vita l'é 'na zirudéla" and makes a brief translation into current Italian.

Joseph says to Mario in the square:
I saw Francis with a face
as yellow as an apricot
That looked like death drunk.

Then Mario meets Domenico
And he says to him, Did you hear him say.
that Francis is unwell
And the doctor doesn’t know what it is?

Immediately afterwards Dominic sees Antonio:
Francis is in bed, did they tell you?
To his own, the doctor said,
Who is afraid that it is a tumor.

Antonio then, confides in Pasquale:
Do you know that Francis is sick?
He has an advanced cancer
That you can’t even operate.

Pasquale at the bar says to Peter:
Did you hear about Francis’ misfortune?
With the bad they found him
Has more few days to live.

Peter with Luigi has a certain relationship:
Fatte robe! Francis is at the point of death!
When Luigi runs into Carletto
says to him, Francis left us the paws.

So Carletto said of Francis:
Boy how quickly you die!
And to think that Francis full of health
He hadn’t even made a stamuto!

Jusèf e dis a Mario in piàza:
A j’ho vèst Frazchì with ‘na faza

That seemed la mort imbariêga.

Pu Mario l’meets Minghì
